Acupuncture for pain management

If you have been following my blog and journey, you may know that one of my specialties is pain management. I remember being around 4 years old, massaging my father’s shoulders for 30 minutes and getting a quarter. Seriously, 30 minutes for a quarter? Later on, I increased my price to a dollar, two dollars then finally three dollars! He even sometimes recommended my massage to my grandmother, bragged about how ‘spicy’ my hands are and how accurately I find the right muscles to work on. I remember sweating on my forehead because I am putting so much effort while massaging. Practicing massage from such a young age, building strength in my hands and learning to know how to use my body when giving treatments helped and complemented me to do what I do (acupuncture) at my work.

Personally I love pain management treatments because when patients leave my office after the session, they feel very relaxed, they have the post acupuncture glow (which I call acu-aura), and most importantly, their pain is eased. Working on pain improvement has been very rewarding. My patients said I have changed their lives and it brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment. I am forever grateful for my father who helped me discover my talent at such a young age, and for my orthopedic professors at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for developing the skills and knowledges I have.

For pain management, I usually include Tuina (massage) or cupping in a session along with the acupuncture (depending on the location of the pain). I have seen that it brings the best outcomes and our bodies respond to it very well.

While I find Tuina and cupping as relaxing the muscles and loosening the tightness, acupuncture not only does those, but also relieves pain by releasing endorphins, our bodies’ natural pain killing chemicals, and by affecting the part of the brain that governs serotonin, a brain chemical involved with the mood. It promotes local blood circulation and lymphatic drainage thus reducing pain.

You may be wondering, so what exactly do I treat? So far, I have successfully treated migraines, shoulder pain, neck stiffness, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, back pain, knee pain, ankle pain, IBS, menstrual cramps… the list goes on and on and on. Oh well, now I feel like a witch.

Here is one of the many reviews of my pain management treatment.

I tell patients that when pain is untreated it is highly likely to cause new pain in another area. To prevent that and for speedy recovery, it is crucial for patients to seek help and receive proper treatments.

Call me at (425) 202-5060 if you are having pain (health concerns). I am here to walk you through how the acupuncture/ my treatment works. I’d be glad to have the opportunity to help you meet your health goals.
